Govt to promote initiatives that enhance Justice

Eastern Province Minister Peter Phiri says the government is committed to promoting initiatives that enhance the delivery of justice.

Mr. Phiri says initiatives such as the alternative dispute resolution mechanism being proposed in the criminal justice system have been used before to resolve legal disputes.

He was speaking during the ceremonial opening of the criminal session of the High Court in Chipata.

And Lusaka High Court Judge Dorcas Malama, who is sitting in Chipata, said the theme resonates with a system that focuses on restorative as opposed to punitive justice.

Meanwhile, Senior State Advocate at the National Prosecutions Authority Nchimunya Munkombwe said alternative dispute resolution mechanisms can alleviate overcrowding in correctional facilities.
