The Ministry of Health is in the process of recovering intercepted medicines containing mostly Antiretroviral Drugs-ARVs which were confiscated in Botswana.
Permanent Secretary for Technical Services KENNEDY LISHIMPI says recently border security working with authorities in Botswana confiscated the drugs with batch numbers from the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency-ZAMSA headed to that country.
Dr. LISHIMPI says investigations have been instituted to ascertain how the truck with medicine belonging to the Zambian government ended up in Botswana.
He says similarly a truck laden with medicine was intercepted in Chililabombwe and some of the contents had batches from ZAMMSA.
Dr. LISHIMPI was speaking in Livingstone after a familiarization tour of the Livingstone University teaching hospital by the new health Minister ELIJAH MUCHIMA.
And Dr. MUCHIMA has reiterated that all those that will be found to have compromised the system in the ministry of health will face the wrath of the law.
Meanwhile Dr. MUCHIMA says the ministry is conducting assessments country wide on the human resource deficit with a view of meeting some of the demand.
