Govt to Remove Digital Infrastructure Taxation Barriers to Boost Innovation

The government has announced plans to remove taxation barriers on digital infrastructure to accelerate its expansion across the country.
Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati stated that this initiative aims to encourage private sector investment in communication technologies.
Additionally, Mr. Mutati disclosed that the government intends to upgrade 600 communication towers to 5G this year.
He made these remarks during the official opening of the 2025 Digital Rights and Inclusion Conference in Lusaka, where he unveiled a Comprehensive Digital Transformation Strategy designed to drive African innovation.
Mr. Mutati also highlighted the government’s collaboration with the UN and UNDP to host an innovation challenge in the mining sector, engaging 25,000 participants in developing cutting-edge technological solutions.
Furthermore, he noted that digital transformation has benefited the agricultural sector, with integrated systems successfully eliminating over 220,000 incorrect fertilizer distributions in the previous farming season.
