Vice President MUTALE NALUMANGO says payment of all outstanding arrears owed to the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia dating back to 2016 will be cleared.
Mrs. NALUMANGO says the arrears among them settling allowances and gratuities will be done in a phased and sustainable manner.
She said the UPND Government will make this priority and is working at resolving debts affecting the health care system in the country.
The Vice President said this in a speech read on her behalf by Copperbelt Province Minister ELISHA MATAMBO , during the Official opening of the 2025 Resident Doctors Association of Zambia Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting.
She further added that Government has budgeted for the employment of 2000 health workers this year among them Doctors.
Meanwhile, Outgoing Resident Doctors President MWEUSHI MPANDE says atleast 1,300 resident doctors who are unemployed are offering voluntary services across the country.
Dr. MPANDE said the poor conditions of service that resident doctors are subjected to have resulted in apathy, lack of motivation and poor quality of work.
He has since appealed to Government for support in addressing the challenges that will depict the future of health care in the country.
