Grade 12 Pass Rate Improves
By Wilson Mulinda
Education Minister DOUGLAS SYAKALIMA has announced results for the 2024 Grade 12 examination showing an increase in the pass rate.
And 115,532 candidates that sat for the 2024 Grade 12 examination have obtained School Certificates.
This is out of 172,977 candidates that registered for the examination.
Announcing the results in Lusaka today, Mr. SYAKALIMA said this shows a slightly higher pass rate of 68.17 percent, compared to 68.03 recorded in 2023.
Mr. SYAKALIMA also announced that 50,404 candidates obtained Statements, while 3,528 candidates failed the examination.
He said improvement in performance despite a larger candidature is attributed to the various interventions Government has put in place.
Mr. SYAKALIMA said the results show that the gender gap in terms of candidature is now favouring girls at Grades 7, 9 and 12 levels, while in terms of performance and the overall quality of passing, the boys are still performing better than girls.
Meanwhile, Education Permanent Secretary for Administration NORIANA MUNEKU has commended all the stakeholders for ensuring a smooth examination, marking and successful announcements.
And Examinations Council of Zambia -ECZ- Director MICHAEL CHILALA said the examination was free of malpractice, which shows improved security of material.
