Haamaundu challenges Lusaka Council to clean CBD
By Alice Lubasi
The Ministry of Local Government has challenged the Lusaka City Council to intensify cleanliness activities in the Central Business District (CBD).
Ministry of Local Government Permanent Secretary for Administration, Maambo Hamaundu, says low levels of compliance with waste management initiatives by traders in the CBD are contributing to the unhygienic situation.
Speaking in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka today, Mr. Hamaundu said the government is engaging various stakeholders, such as businesses in the CBD, to ensure cleanliness in their areas of operation.
Mr. Hamaundu has urged traders and marketeers to practice hygiene as a means to also prevent diseases such as cholera.
Zambia National Marketeers Credit Association (ZANAMACA) President, Mupila Kameya, says the call for sanitation needs more collaboration from stakeholders.
Mr. Kameya says the association has started various initiatives to ensure sensitisation is enhanced.
