Heavy Rains Devastate 200 Hectares of Crops in ShibuyunjI

(ZANIS) About 200 hectares of maize and soybean crop fields in Shibuyunji, Central Province, have been washed away by heavy rains.

This has affected about 50 farmers in Chikonka Ward.

Shibuyunji District Commissioner, Alfred Shaputu says the crops which were about to mature have been destroyed leaving the affected farmers in need.

Mr. Shaputu explained that officers from the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) are assessing the situation to determine the extent of the damage.

He added that the continued heavy rains have also led to the degradation of roads in the district.
