President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has urged traditional leaders to provide leadership to guide people on how to survive the current drought.
President HICHILEMA says the government is doing its part but that there is a need for Chiefs to work with the state in addressing the drought.
The President also says the initiative to give traditional leaders farming inputs will continue.
He says Chiefs will keep receiving fertilizer and other inputs so that they lead by example in guiding their subjects to engage in farming.
President HICHILEMA said this in Mkushi district today when he met traditional leaders from Central province and Chiefs from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This is ahead of the Ichibwela Mushi traditional ceremony of the Lala and Swaka people of Chief SHAIBILA.
The President is in Mkushi to grace the traditional ceremony.
He says the presence of traditional leaders from the DRC and other parts of the country signifies the unity required to drive development in both Zambia and the DRC.
And Central province Council of Chiefs Chairperson Chief CHIBALE has appealed to the President to consider creating the Ministry of Cooperatives to address gaps in the Ministry of Agriculture.
Chief CHIBALE has also commended the President for his efforts in uniting the country.
