President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA is attending the virtual SADC Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government on the security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC .
The meeting convened by SADC Chairperson EMMERSON MNANGAGWA received a report of the virtual Extraordinary SADC Organ Troika Summit of March 6, 2025 on the prevailing security and humanitarian situation in the DRC .
Speaking in his opening remarks President MNANGAGWA, who is also Zimbabwean President called for enhanced collaborative strategies to improve peace and the security situation in the DRC.
And SADC Executive Secretary ELIAS MAGOSI said the attacks by the M23 Armed Group against DRC Government Forces, Troops from SADC Countries, and the civilian population, and the subsequent capture of various 3 cities and towns in the area, have resulted in
the loss of lives.
Mr. MAGOSI says this has forced many people, particularly women, children, the elderly and disabled, to flee their homes.
He says SADC strongly condemns the unwarranted attacks on innocent people by the rebel groups and is in solidarity with the DRC, to address the prevailing security challenges through relevant SADC structures.
Mr. MAGOSI has urged stakeholders to utilise the Nairobi and Luanda Peace Processes which has gained trust in collective efforts to return the DRC to normalcy.
