HH calls for accountable mining at Kasenseli Gold Mine

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has called for safe and accountable mining at Kasenseli Gold Mine in Mwinilunga.
President HICHILEMA says the mine was shut down in 2021 because there was no accountability and safe mining.
He says the gold from Kasenseli must be sold at the right price and must benefit local people through job creation.
President HICHILEMA says the gold mine has been re-opened as a partnership between the Chibwika Chiefdom Development Trust and the Zambia Gold Company.
He says the partnership has made it possible for local people to have a stake in the gold mine.
The President has since urged the Zambia Gold Company to train young men and women as dump truck operators to create more jobs for local people at the mine.
And President HICHILEMA has directed that youths who discovered gold at Kasenseli be given a mining license so that they start their own mine at another site.
The President has directed that a mechanism should also be put in place to enable the youths sell their gold to the Zambia Gold Company.
And Mines Minister PAUL KABUSWE says the reopening of Kasenseli Gold Mine is a milestone to unlocking Zambia’s mining sector.
And Zambia Gold Company Board Chairperson GUY PHIRI says the mine will continue to partner with the community as it resumes operations.
Meanwhile, ZCCM-IH Board Chairperson KAKENENWA MUYANGWA says the reopening of Kasenseli Gold Mine will stimulate economic activities in Mwinilunga.
Mr MUYANGWA says ZCCM- IH has also invested funds for remediation works to support continued explorations at the mine.
And North Western Province Minister ROBERT LIHEFU says the reopening of Kasenseli Gold Mine is a testament of growth of the mining sector.
And Mwinilunga Member of Parliament NEWTON SAMAKAYI has called for an audit of the gold produced before the closure of the mine.
And in a vote of thanks Chief CHIBWIKA has commended President HICHILEMA for listening to the cries of the people in his area.
The traditional leader says he is happy that the Kasenseli Gold Mine has been reopened.
