HH Calls for Fairness and Integrity in Anti-Corruption Efforts
By Sharon Kunda
President Hakainde Hichilema says the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) should be devoid of ethnicity and must uphold fairness.
President Hichilema says the institution should ensure that cases are thoroughly investigated before arresting suspects to avoid tarnishing people’s images.
He has also urged the institution not to damage the country’s prospects of investments by issuing unfounded statements and to ensure that integrity is upheld.
President Hichilema says that he had dissolved the entire board of the ACC and removed the Director General as it was unfortunate that certain individuals would hold a press briefing to address confidential matters.
The President said this when he swore in the ACC Board Chairperson, Retired Justice Evans Hamaundu, the Vice Board Chairperson, Kaumbu Mwondela, alongside board members who include Engwase Mwale, Jack Kalala, and Naluche Ziba at State House.
The President has also sworn in three permanent secretaries at the Ministry of Finance.
These are Mulele Mulele as Permanent Secretary in charge of Economic Management and Finance, Mwaka Mukubesa for Budget and Economic Affairs, and Prudence Kaoma as Permanent Secretary for Planning and Administration.
Others sworn in include Public Service Management Division Permanent Secretary Lois Mulube, Energy Permanent Secretary for Electricity Arnold Simwaba, Education Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Dr. Kelvin Mambwe, and Labour and Social Security Permanent Secretary Zechariah Luhanga.
The President has also sworn in Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Lawrence Mwanza, Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Prudence Chinama, Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Reverend Mathews Chilekwa, and Cabinet Office Public Policy Analyst in the Policy Analysis and Coordination Division Muyatwa Ndiyoi.
Nason Musonda has been sworn in as Luapula Province Minister, while Chembo Mbula has been sworn in as Emoluments Commission Director General.
President Hichilema congratulated the appointed officers and urged them to deliver equitable services to the people of Zambia.
He noted that there is no major or minor tribe in Zambia, hence the need for equitable treatment of citizens.
President Hichilema said part of his administration’s agenda is to unite the people.
He said the country’s natural resources belong to all Zambians and not to a particular tribe or region.
President Hichilema stressed the need to grow the economy through investments so that everyone can benefit from the national cake.
Newly appointed ACC Board Chairperson Retired Justice EVANS HAMAUNDU says the board will familiarize itself with the operations of the institution before embarking on full operations.
Justice HAMAUNDU has since extended his gratitude to the President HICHILEMA for entrusting him and the Commissioners with the responsibility to run the affairs of ACC.
He was speaking shortly after being sworn in as ACC Chairperson.
And, Luapula Province Minister NASON MUSONDA has pledged to unite the people and accelerate development in the region.
Energy Permanent Secretary for Electricity ARNOLD SIMWABA said his first priority is to ensure a stable and sufficient electricity supply for all.
Meanwhile, Newly appointed Education Permanent Secretary in Charge of Technical Services, KELVIN MAMBWE stressed the need to ensure a successful implementation of the new curriculum and the free education policy.
