By Ellen Hambuba
President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has called on leaders in the East African Community -EAC- and SADC regional blocs to pursue peaceful resolutions to the conflict in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC.
President HICHILEMA has also called for an immediate ceasefire and cessation of hostilities that have resulted in the tragic loss of lives and displacement of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians in the eastern DRC.
He says the only viable path forward for all parties involved is meaningful, sustained and solution-oriented dialogue.
President HICHILEMA says Zambia firmly believes that lasting peace is not forged on the battlefield but at the negotiating table.
He has since extended Zambia’s profound gratitude to President SAMIA SULUHU HASSAN and the people of Tanzania for hosting the historic gathering.
The President has also praised President EMMERSON MNANGAGWA of Zimbabwe and President WILLIAM RUTO of Kenya for their invaluable role in co-hosting the critical discussions.
President HICHILEMA says their leadership and commitment to regional stability are deeply appreciated.
He said this shortly before departure for Zambia after the close of the Joint EAC-SADC Summit that was held in Dar es Salaam – Tanzania.
