
HH heads to Addis for AU Summit

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA is scheduled to attend the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, slated for February 15 to 16, 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Assembly, the African Union’s highest decision-making body, will convene under the theme: Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations.
In a statement to ZNBC News, Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister MULAMBO HAIMBE said discussions will focus on critical issues including African Union Institutional Reforms.
Mr. HAIMBE said the Assembly will further discuss the African Continental Free Trade Area, peace and security, and Africa’s engagement in the G20.
He said the Assembly will also consider reports from various high-level committees, including the Committee of 10 Heads of State on the reform of the United Nations Security Council, the AUDA-NEPAD Heads of State Orientation Committee, and the African Peer Review Mechanism -APRM- Forum.
Mr. HAIMBE explained that President HICHILEMA will while in Ethiopia participate in key meetings, including the APRM Summit and the High-Level Meeting on Sustainable Financing in Africa.
He added that the President will hold strategic bilateral meetings on matters of mutual interest to advance Zambia’s national and economic priorities.
The Summit is preceded by the 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council -Session of Ministers- of the African Union, held from February 12 to 13, 2025.
The President is expected to return to Zambia immediately after concluding his engagements.
