
HH honours founders of Chikuni and Kasisi Missions

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has laid wreaths at Kasika Cemetery on the grave of Fr. JOSEPH MOREAU, the founder of Chikuni Mission, which he established in 1905.
Fr. MOREAU was born in 1864 and passed away in 1949.
The President also laid wreaths on the grave of Fr. JULES TORREND, a French Jesuit and companion of Fr. MOREAU, who founded Kasisi Mission in October 1905.
President HICHILEMA earlier toured the Mukanzubo Kalinda Institute.
The Institute preserves the history of the Chikuni Mission as well as the Tonga Culture.
Institute Coordinator MABLE CHOMBE says the facility aims to preserve the Tradition and Culture of the Batonga people.
In an interview with ZNBC News ,Ms. CHOMBE said the institute further enables the young generations to understand the context and content of the Batonga language
She adds that the Institute also has artifacts from earlier settlers discovered in the area around Chikuni and surrounding areas.
The President who arrived at Canisius School Ground aboard the Presidential Helicopter at about 10:15 hours was received by Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister JACK MWIIMBU and Southern Province Minister CREDO NANJUWA.
President HICHILEMA was also welcomed by a multitude of people who gathered at the ground.
President HICHILEMA is in Monze to attend celebrations of 120 years of the Chikuni Mission.
