“HH is ready to face any political competitor in 2026”
By Masauso Mkwayaya
Chief Government Spokesperson CORNELIUS MWEETWA says President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA is prepared to face any political competitor in 2026, given his leadership track record.
Mr. MWEETWA says Zambia’s democracy thrives on political competition, and President HICHILEMA’s leadership credentials make him ready for any challenger.
He says the European Union’s restoration of budget support to Zambia is among the many examples of a vote of confidence in the President’s leadership and prudent management of national resources.
Mr. MWEETWA says it is unacceptable for the former President to compare himself to President HICHILEMA, who has restored the country’s international standing and rebuilt relationships with global partners.
Speaking to ZNBC News in Accra, Ghana, on the sidelines of the Global Conference on Access to Information, Mr. MWEETWA also said Government’s success in rescheduling the country’s debt which former President LUNGU left, is another score for President
HICHILEMA.
And Mr. MWEETWA criticized former President LUNGU for his handling of the energy sector during his time, adding that his administration left a debt of over 590 million U.S. dollars to Maamba Energy, hindering its expansion.
He said in contrast, President HICHILEMA has resolved the standoff and secured financing for the company’s expansion, which will add 300 Megawatts to the country’s energy generation.
