President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says the projected increase in copper production at Ming’omba Mine will help contribute to the attainment of the 3 million tonnes of copper production.
Speaking when he met a delegation from KoBald Metals at State House in Lusaka today, President HICHILEMA said every mining asset in the country is expected to contribute to the country’s target of increasing copper production by 2031.
He urged the delegation to continue working hard and accelerate efforts, where possible, in boosting production.
President HICHILEMA expressed happiness that Ming’omba Mine has employed more than 500 workers and that more employment opportunities will be created.
He commended the company for taking part in local business promotion which he said is a key component of their operations.
And Ming’omba Metals Chief Executive Officer MFIKEYI MAKAYI said 75 thousand cubic meters of drilling has taken place in the last two years and a high rate of ore body has been unlocked.
Ms. MAKAYI said Ming’omba Mines anticipates copper production of about 300,000 tonnes by 2031 and that it has to commence shaft sinking in the next 12 months in order to achieve that.
Meanwhile, Kobald Metals President and Co-Founder JOSH GOLDMAN said that Ming’omba Mine has one of the most extraordinary deposits of copper in the world.
