HH Orders Relocation of Homes Built on Waterways
By Wilson Mulinda
President Hakainde Hichilema says the government will relocate everyone who has built on waterways to designated areas without engaging the courts.
President Hichilema says this is one of the easiest ways to address the floods because many houses have been constructed on waterways, which block the smooth flow of water.
Speaking when he toured some flood-affected areas in Lusaka, the President said the government sympathizes with all the victims and will do the right thing to ensure such situations do not happen again.
President Hichilema has also called for an emergency meeting with all line government departments to find alternative homes for those who were left homeless due to the floods.
He said defense wings will replace the bridge linking Ng’ombe and Kabanana townships that was washed away by floods.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane said resources will be made available to ensure that all Presidential directives are adhered to in the shortest possible time.
Lusaka Province Minister Sheal Mulyata said engineers will remain on the ground to conduct surveys and ensure that every citizen is protected.
