HH Thanks SADC and COMESA for Supporting AfDB Candidate Samuel Maimbo
ZANIS -President Hakainde Hichilema has thanked SADC and COMESA for rallying behind Samuel Maimbo as the candidate for the African Development Bank (AfDB) Presidency.
President Hichilema says Dr. Maimbo is a good candidate who will serve the interests of the continent once elected.
The President says Dr. Maimbo’s experience is an important asset which will enable him to deliver on the job.
President Hichilema has urged Dr. Maimbo to ensure that, once elected, he helps reduce the cost of capital for most African countries.
The President said this during a joint press briefing with Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, SADC chairperson, and Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye, COMESA chairperson.
Dr. Maimbo also attended the press briefing.
President Hichilema asked the two leaders to help in reaching out to other regional blocs on the continent to rally behind Dr. Maimbo.
And COMESA Secretary General CHILESHE KAPWEPWE said Dr. MAIMBO understands Africa’s needs and has the skills and experience to turn vision into action .
Ms. KAPWEPWE said Dr. MAIMBO has dedicated his career to development finance where he has helped to mobilize resources for various initiatives on the Continent .
And Dr MAIMBO said he will push for more investments in sectors such as the creative industry that attract young people.
He said more investment is also needed in agriculture to ensue Africa has enough food which will also boost trade among countries.
He said it is also important to reach out to other non-African shareholders who have voting rights.
