President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA is tomorrow expected in the Chinese City of Xian to engage with a Chinese Solar Energy Company – Longi, on possibilities of investing in Zambia.
President HICHILEMA will tour the Solar Power Plant and engage the company’s management to invest in Zambia owing to the drought induced power shortage.
This is part of his Forum on China Africa Cooperation -FOCAC- Summit sideline meetings.
Longi Company which is based in Shaanxi Province is currently a world leader in solar power solutions and has embarked on a project to generate an additional of over 100,000 megawatts of power supply through solar solutions.
And Counselor for Economics LORDWELL KALUBANKWA says President HICHILEMA’s engagement with Longi is of great significance in addressing the energy crisis Zambia is facing.
He says the local leadership in Xian City will also host a Banquet in honour of President HICHILEMA.
While in Xian City, the President will also visit a local museum that attracts 65,000 tourists daily, who visit it to appreciate the legacy of the Terracotta Warriors of the Chinese Qin dynasty.
The Terracotta Warriors were discovered by a local farmer who was trying to dig a well in 1976.
President HICHILEMA is expected to return to Beijing on September 3, to join other African leaders attending the FOCAC summit under the theme, ‘joining hands to advance modernisation and build a high-level China Africa community with a shared future’.
The 2024 FOCAC summit is expected to re-strategise development initiatives between China and Africa.
