Hippo Attack Claims Life of 61-Year-Old Man in Livingstone

A 61-year-old man has been killed by a hippo in Livingstone, Southern Province.

Geoffrey Bwalya, of Dambwa area, was attacked and killed by the hippo as he took a walk.

This happened yesterday, Sunday, March 2, 2025, around 08 hours at the sewer ponds in Dambwa Site Extension.

Southern Province Police Commanding Officer, Auxensio Daka, has confirmed, saying the deceased sustained a deep wound on the belly, exposing the intestines, a broken left leg, and cuts on the head.

Mr. Daka says the hippo is believed to be raising its calf in one of the sewer ponds.
