Immigration Dept Nets over K1bn in Revenue
By Rosemary Kamanga
The Department of Immigration has hit its highest revenue collection exceeding one billion Kwacha.
This is exceeding its revenue target set by the treasury by over 320 million Kwacha.
And, Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister, JACK MWIIMBU says the recruitment of 367 immigration assistants and 102 border guards, has significantly improved the staff strength.
Mr. MWIIMBU acknowledged the department’s progress in implementing the Zambia Immigration Management System -ZIMS- and opening new internal border controls.
Mr MWIIMBU said this when he opened the 2024 Senior and Regional Immigration Officers Annual Conference in Lusaka today.
He has since directed the Department to ensure that all newly gazetted border posts and internal offices are operationalized by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Immigration Department Director General JAPHET LISHOMWA said the department recorded a 14 percent increase in entries with over 2.5 million recorded in 2024.
Dr. LISHOMWA also reported a twelve percent increase in arrests, with 10,599 suspects apprehended in 2024, while 5,413 suspects were prosecuted.
He attributed the successes to the department’s strategic direction, which focused on critical reforms designed to enhance organizational performance.
