JAY JAY faces Seat loss without parley appearance
By Hannock Kasama
Fugitive PETAUKE Central Member of Parliament EMMANUEL BANDA has been given a seven-day ultimatum to report in the National Assembly or risk losing his parliamentary seat.
Speaker of the National Assembly NELLY MUTTI has issued the ultimatum.
This followed a vote in the National Assembly over the Parliamentary Committee on Privileges’ recommendations that pursuant to the rule of natural justice, Mr. BANDA must be accorded seven days to show up or lose his seat.
The parliamentarians that voted in the affirmative were 62 while 25 of them opposed the motion.
Afterwards, Ms. MUTTI ruled that she will inform the Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- on the vacancy of the PETAUKE Central Seat should Mr. BANDA fail to show up in the National Assembly.
Her ruling comes on the backdrop of the point of order recently raised by KATOMBORA Member of Parliament CLEMENT ANDELEKI.
Dr. ANDELEKI sought to know whether or not the people of PETAUKE Central must remain unrepresented following the disappearance of Mr. BANDA since August 2024.
