JCC hearing on suspended judges takes off
By Hannock Kasama
Hearing of the complaint against three suspended Constitutional Court Judges has taken off in Lusaka, in camera, before the Judicial Complaints Commission.
The three Judges were suspended on September 23, 2024 by President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA following the Judicial Complaints Commission’s recommendations on the backdrop of Youth Network Against Violence Executive Director MOSES KALONDE’s complaint against them.
The affected judges are ANNIE SITALI, MUNGENI MULENGA and PALAN MULONDA.
Meanwhile, the attempt by the three Constitutional Court Judges to wrestle their suspension through Judicial Review has failed.
A panel of High Court Judges comprising Judges CHARLES ZULU, CHILOMBO MAKA and TWAAMBO MUSONDA has ruled that the High Court lacks jurisdiction to hear their application.
Judges ZULU, MAKA and MUSONDA have underlined that the Constitutional issues raised by the three judges in their application for Judicial Review are a preserve of the Constitutional Court.
