Kampyongo’s wife denied bail

Incarcerated former Home Affairs Minister STEPHEN KAMPYONGO’s wife WANZIYA CHIRWA has lost her appeal for bail against her three year jail term.
Mrs. KAMPYONGO has been imprisoned for possession of goods deemed to be proceeds of crime.
She filed the bail application appeal in the LUSAKA High Court on November 04, this year.
However the Court has ruled that Mrs. KAMPYONGO has not demonstrated any exceptional circumstance to be admitted to bail.
The judgment has been delivered by LUSAKA High Court Judges ANNIE ANONUJU, VINCENT SILOKA and IAN MABBOLOBOLO
This comes after the recent verdict where LUSAKA Principal Resident SILVIA MUNYINYA denied Mrs KAMPYONGO bail.
Magistrates MUNYINYA on October 29, 2024 ruled that Mrs. KAMPYONGO has failed to demonstrate exceptional circumstances to warrant her admission to bail pending appeal.
Magistrates MUNYINYA also ruled that Ms.CHIRWA’s pending appeal has slim chances of success according to the evidence on record.
However in the bail application Ms. CHIRWA contended her appeal had prospects of success.
