Kampyongo’s wife Wanziya denied bail

Former Home Affairs Minister STEPHEN KAMPYONGO’S wife WANZIYA CHIRWA has been denied bail, pending appeal against her three years jail term for possession of goods deemed to be proceeds of crime.
LUSAKA Principal Resident, SILVIA MUNYINYA has ruled that Ms. CHIRWA has failed to demonstrate exceptional circumstances to warrant her admission to bail pending appeal.
Magistrates MUNYINYA has also ruled that Ms. CHIRWA’s pending appeal has slim chances of success, pursuant to the evidence on record.
In the bail application, Ms. CHIRWA contended her appeal has prospects of success.
Ms. CHIRWA added that unless she is granted bail she will serve the substantial part of her three years imprisonment.
However the state countered her application, underlining that Ms. CHIRWA has not demonstrated any exceptional circumstances to obtain her bail pending appeal
Ms. CHIRWA’s contest for bail pending appeal comes after her three years jail term for possession of properties deemed to be proceeds of crime.
