Kelvin Sampa formally arrested
Police have formally arrested Former Kasama Member of Parliament KELVIN SAMPA in connection with various offences.
The cases include obtaining money by false pretences, possession of counterfeit notes, and possession of paper or implements intended for forgery.
Police Spokesperson RAE HAMOONGA confirmed in a statement in LUSAKA today.
Mr HAMOONGA says it is alleged that SAMPA, acting together with MABO MARTIN and other individuals yet to be identified, unlawfully obtained 80,000 United States Dollars from SATOSHI SAKAMOTO, a Japanese national.
He says the suspect falsely claimed that the money will be used to assist Mr. SAKAMOTO in purchasing refined gold within Zambia, when in fact, this was not the case.
Mr HAMOONGA says in a second count, Mr SAMPA was further found in possession of 49 counterfeit 100 United States notes, amounting to 4,900 United States Dollars.
He says the counterfeit currency was being presented as genuine when it was not.
Mr HAMOONGA says Mr. SAMPA was found with paper intended to resemble special paper used in the manufacturing of currency notes.
He says this paper, along with other implements for forgery, was intended for illegal use to produce counterfeit currency.
Mr. HAMOONGA says the offences are alleged to have been committed between June and September 2024 within Lusaka District, Lusaka Province.
The suspect will appear in court soon.
