Kitwe steps up measures against cholera

The Ministry of Health in Kitwe District has started putting in place measures to prevent an outbreak of diseases such as cholera.
District Health Director FRANCIS LIYWALI says the district health office has started sensitizations in various communities on disease prevention measures.
Dr. LIYWALI says his office will work with the water utility to ensure communities have proper water supply.
And Kitwe City Council Director Public Health RODNEY BANDA says the council has intensified inspections of various premises to avoid an outbreak of cholera and other diseases.
Mr. BANDA also said the council has directed people handling food in various food establishments to be medically examined and certified to handle foodstuff.
He said the move is aimed at ensuring qualified people in food establishment handle food to avoid any outbreaks of cholera and other diseases.
The two were speaking during the district epidemics preparedness meeting in Kitwe.
