“Law and order will be maintained during by-elections”
The government has assured the nation that law and order will be maintained before and after the by-elections in Petauke Central and Pambashe Constituencies.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka today, Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu said security agencies deployed in the areas are prepared to ensure peaceful and orderly elections.
Mr. Mwiimbu expressed concern over a statement issued by Tonse Alliance Spokesperson Sean Tembo two days ago, warning that any perceived aggression shall be met with force.
He advised political players against inciting violence during the election period.
Mr. Mwiimbu emphasized that violence has no place in a democratic state like Zambia, adding that destroying peace will harm the nation.
He also dismissed claims by some sections of society that the UPND and the police are partners.
