Livingstone headed for a bumper harvest
By Moombe Hamoobola
Livingstone District Cooperative Union Chairperson, Rwinnick Mapanza, says the city is headed for a maize bumper harvest should the current rainfall activities continue.
Mr. Mapanza has told ZNBC News that despite a slow start, most farmers in the tourist capital are doing well, with most maize having reached knee level and above.
Mr. Mapanza said the district is projected to reach over 70 percent maize harvest should the rains continue on the same trajectory.
He said the rains delayed to start, but have significantly improved to the extent of floods being recorded in some areas.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mapanza said farmers must stop planting maize by the end of this week because maize planted after may not reach maturity.
He has urged those that are still planting maize this week to go for only early maturing varieties that can mature within 75 days from planting.
