Local Government Service Commission to employ 700
By Sharon Siame
The Local Government Service Commission says it will soon commence the recruitment process of more than 700 positions in the Local Government.
Local Government Service Commission Chairperson ACKSON SEJANI says the positions will mainly be in the technical fields of the local Government which include engineering, surveying and architecture.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. SEJANI said that the restructuring process of the Local Government has resulted in the creation of new vacancies.
The Local Government Service Commission Chairperson said the new structure of all 96 town councils has been approved by Cabinet and only municipal councils are remaining.
He said the restructuring process involved re-titling certain positions such as that of Deputy Council Secretary which has changed to Director Human Resource.
Mr. SEJANI explained that departments have also been realigned to create new ones such as the Department of Community Services.
He said that this is in line with Government’s decentralisation policy and that the Commission is in receipt of more than 35,000 workers from the Central Government against the total target of 51,000.
