Luapula-Kafue Bulk Water Transfer Not Final -Nzovu
By Wilson Mulinda
Government says the feasibility report on proposed Luapula-Kafue bulk water transfer project is a preliminary document and not the final version for the water transfer project.
Water Development and Sanitation Minister, COLLINS NZOVU has also acknowledged concerns over the premature circulation of the draft report.
Mr. NZOVU has assured the public that internal consultations are still in progress.
He says the proposed Luapula-Kafue bulk water transfer project is a significant initiative aimed at mitigating the impacts of the recurring and prolonged droughts, which are causing serious water, energy and food insecurities.
Mr. NZOVU told ZNBC News that a feasibility study, which is being done at no cost to Government, was undertaken following a Memorandum of Understanding that was signed between POWERCHINA International Group Limited.
He said Power China started a research study on the potential transfer of water from the Luapula River to the Kafue River aimed at building national resilience against the negative impacts of climate change.
