Lusaka City Council Buries 34 unclaimed Bodies
By Cecilia Zgambo
The Lusaka City Council has buried 34 unclaimed bodies, between January and March this year.
The burial was undertaken following a formal request by the University Teaching Hospital -UTH.
Council Assistant Public Relations Manager, NYAMBE BULUMBA says the number is lower than the 49 unclaimed bodies during the same period last year.
Mr BULUMBA has told ZNBC news that the council had issued a 14-day notice to members of the public to identify or claim any of the deceased for burial but no one came forth.
He has encouraged members of the public to actively respond to public notices, regarding unclaimed bodies to help decongest the UTH mortuary and prevent mass burials, which are undertaken using council resources.
Mr BULUMBA says resources used to undertake such exercises could be used for other public service programmes.
