Lusaka City Council to Assess Drainage System After Kabanana Flooding
By Caren Mwaka
The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has been directed to carry out an assessment of the drainage system in Kabanana township that led to flooding, which has displaced over one hundred families.
Local Government Permanent Secretary, Maambo Hamaundu, says the council should also intensify the cash-for-work program in the township to keep the drainage free from debris.
Mr. Hamaundu told ZNBC News that other local authorities should do the same to ensure that such floods do not occur.
Meanwhile, Acting Lusaka District Commissioner, O’Neil Chiiya, said that in collaboration with the Disaster Management Mitigation Unit (DMMU), a comprehensive list for relief food is being finalized for the affected families.
