Lusaka Doctor Pleads Not Guilty to Rape
By Memory Bbuku
A 33-year-old intern doctor accused of raping a patient at Lusaka’s Maina Soko Medical Centre has pleaded NOT guilty to the charge.
When the matter came up before Lusaka Magistrate KAWAMA MWANFULI, the accused WAZA LUNGU told the Court that he understood the charge but denied it.
Allegations in the matter are that LUNGU on March 4, 2025 had unlawful carnal knowledge of a patient without her consent.
Meanwhile, Magistrate MWANFULI has granted the accused K20,000 bail in his own recognisance with two working sureties.
This was after the accused through his lawyer PETRONELA KAFUMBE applied for bail.
Magistrate MWANFULI has since adjourned the matter to April 10, 2025 for commencement of trial.
