Maina Soko Operations Resume After Smoke Alarm
By Joy Nyambe
Normal operations have resumed at Maina Soko Medical Centre in Lusaka where patients and members of staff were this afternoon evacuated to the Fire Assembly point at the facility.
This was a precautionary measure following an automatic smoke alarm system at the medical facility.
Maina Soko Medical Centre Commandant, Brigadier General LEVY MUCHEMWA says data from the Monitoring System in the Control Room indicated that smoke had been detected in the Kitchen Building and the Renal Unit Dialysis Centre.
General MUCHEMWA says a team of Engineers and Fire Safety Officers conducted a thorough assessment of all departments, particularly the two flagged areas.
He says preliminary findings suggest that the smoke may have been caused by someone smoking outside at a spot near the window of the changing room in Building Two, which is the Kitchen.
General MUCHEMWA says no fire was detected in any of the buildings.
He says all patients have since been returned to their wards.
