Maize distributed to FRA sites for sale at K330
Agriculture Minister REUBEN MTOLO says government has delivered maize grain under the Food Reserve Agency -FRA- back to satellite depots to enable communities access the staple food at 330 Kwacha per 50kg bag.
Mr. MTOLO says the decision is aimed at abetting hunger caused by the devastating drought experienced during the 2023/2024 season that affected most parts of the country.
The Minister was speaking when he launched the rehabilitated Ndondi Dam in Chief Moyo’s Chiefdom in Pemba district.
Mr. MTOLO observed that communities must be able to access the maize grain within their localities as government has reversed the process from FRA sheds in towns back to satellite depots in the far flung areas in the rural areas.
And Pemba District Commissioner OBEY HABEENZU said government has dispatched 370 metric tonnes of maize grain for community sales.
