Malaria cases slow down slightly

The National Malaria Control Center has reported a reduction in malaria cases and deaths due to increased prevention and treatment.
National Malaria Control Center Acting Director, SAMPA OTIONO, says there has been a significant reduction in malaria cases and deaths in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
Dr. OTIONO said the country recorded 4,577,206 malaria cases in the first quarter of 2024, from over 4,800,000 cases in the first quarter of 2023.
In an interview with ZNBC, Dr. OTIONO emphasized the importance of early antenatal care for pregnant women to receive malaria prevention medication and mosquito nets.
She also reveals that the under-5 age group saw a significant reduction in malaria cases.
