Man arrested for using Nkombo’s Identity for scams
Police have arrested a 28 year old man for identity fraud and impersonation of Local Government Minister GARY NKOMBO.
SIMON MWALUBULO of Manungu Compound of Monze in Southern Province was arrested yesterday and is currently detained at Lusaka Central Police as investigations continue.
Police Spokesperson RAE HAMOONGA says Mr NKOMBO reported that unknown individuals were using a Facebook page bearing his name, “Garry Nkombo,” to solicit money from unsuspecting members of the public.
Mr HAMOONGA says the individuals promised jobs in local government and falsely offered access to Constituency Development Funds for empowerment purposes.
He has told ZNBC News that the fraudulent activities were conducted on various dates between January and October 2024, primarily through social media platforms and were reported from Lusaka.
Mr HAMOONGA says Police have seized three cellular phones and a SIM card allegedly used to solicit money from the public.
He has since called on the public to verify the legitimacy of job offers or financial solicitations before making any financial commitments.
