Man dies in burning car
A 48 year old man of Lusaka’s Meanwood Chamba Valley has been burnt to death in his vehicle.
This is after his motor vehicle caught fire along PHI road near Hybrid roundabout.
NKOWANI NKTINKANI was driving a Toyota Runx with his wife and their 16-year-old son on board when it caught fire.
Police Deputy Public Relations Officer DANNY MWALE has told ZNBC NEWS in a statement that the incident happened yesterday around 20:00 hours.
Mr MWALE said the son escaped without injuries leaving his parents inside the burning vehicle.
He said members of the public who responded to the incident managed to rescue his wife, while efforts to help Mr. NHTINKANI proved futile.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the University Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem, while his wife, who sustained severe burns all over her body, is receiving treatment at Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital.
Meanwhile, Police have detained Politician PAUL MOONGA in connection with the offence of failing to secure a firearm.
The Pistol was left unsecured in a Nissan Fuga motor vehicle that was parked at East Park Mall.
Mr. MWALE said Police officers picked and secured the firearm while the motor vehicle was clamped.
Mr MWALE said Mr. MOONGA who presented himself to Police officers in the evening and claimed ownership of the firearm and motor vehicle has been detained, as investigations to establish the actual owner of the firearm and motor vehicle are ongoing.
