Mangwegwe dance inscribed by UNESCO
The Mangwegwe dance of the Mambwe and Namwanga speaking people of Zambia, has been inscribed by UNESCO.
Chairperson of the UNESCO Committee, NANCY OVERLAR DE GOROSTIAGA has declared the Mangwengwe, part of the UNESCO list of cultural heritage of humanity.
This prestigious recognition brings to 6, the number of Zambia’s cultural elements on the UNESCO list.
And VIVIEN NDHLOVU, Head of the Zambian Delegation and Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, has expressed appreciation for the inscription.
She has explained that through this inscription, Zambia aims to enhance the visibility of its cultural heritage via a national inventory register and other elements on the UNESCO representative list.
