Ministry of Tourism Engages Consultant for Airstrip Rehabilitation
By Alice Lubasi
The Ministry of Tourism has engaged a consultant to conduct a feasibility study and detailed engineering designs for the rehabilitation and upgrade of airstrips.
The consultant will also prepare bidding documents.
The airstrips scheduled for rehabilitation are in Kalabo, Western Province; Jeki at the Lower Zambezi National Park; and Chunga in the Kafue National Park.
This is aimed at boosting air connectivity, easing access to prime tourism sites, and driving economic growth in local communities.
The studies are expected to be completed by July 2025 to pave the way for critical infrastructure improvements.
This is under the National Tourism Master Plan 2018 to 2038, dubbed Zambia Green Resilient and Transformational Tourism Development Project (GREAT-TDP).
The plan is spearheading initiatives that will enhance Zambia’s nature-based economy, strengthen tourism infrastructure, and foster sustainable development.
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News in Lusaka by Ministry Communications Assistant, Sylvia Kapungwe.
