MMD joins UPND Alliance

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says he will continue to promote unity and peace in the Country.
President HICHILEMA says as a leader, it is his responsibility to uphold unity and peace during challenging times.
Speaking at the signing ceremony of the United Party for National Development -UPND- and the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy -MMD- Memorandum of Understanding –MoU, President HICHILEMA urged UPND members to embrace new members in the spirit of unity.
The President expressed gratitude to MMD President NEVERS MUMBA for standing with the UPND during difficult times.
President HICHILEMA said acting with integrity and doing the correct things in tough times strengthens the nation through unity.
And MMD President NEVERS MUMBA said the partnership is founded on shared values of justice, unity and development.
Dr. MUMBA announced that he will not contest as MMD President in the 2026 elections but will support President HICHILEMA under the UPND Alliance.
He explained that the MMD supports UPND’s efforts to stabilize and unify the nation.
Dr. MUMBA noted that unity is essential for economic growth.
Speaking at the same event, Vice President MUTALE NALUMANGO, who is also UPND Vice President, said politics should be value-driven.
Mrs. NALUMANGO said values provide guidance on the purpose and conduct of politics.
And UPND Secretary General BATUKE IMENDA said the MMD joined the UPND Alliance due to the party’s progressive policies.
UPND Alliance Partners Chairperson CHARLES MILUPI added that the alliance is attractive because of its core values.
Mr. MILUPI said Dr. MUMBA’s background as former Vice President and his record of supporting justice are valuable to the Alliance.
