Muchemwa loses bail appeal
By Hannock Kasama
PF member FRANCIS MUCHEMWA has lost his appeal contest for bail in the LUSAKA High Court.
This follows the rejection of his earlier application in the Subordinate Court.
The LUSAKA High Court has ruled that Mr. MUCHEMWA has not demonstrated exceptional circumstances to be admitted to bail.
Judges PIXXIE YANGAILO, IAN MABBOLOBOLO and ANNIE ANONUJU, have ruled that Mr. MUCHEMWA will not suffer any prejudice as his appeal against judgment in the main case is likely to be heard speedily.
In August 2024, the LUSAKA Chief Resident Magistrate DAVIES CHIBWILI quashed Mr. MUCHEMWA’s bail application pending appeal after convicting him in July 2024 for possession of properties deemed to be proceeds of crime.
Magistrate CHIBWILI handed Mr. MUCHEMWA a three years imprisonment with hard labour.
