Over 10,000 cotton farmers in Central Province will be engaged by Mulungushi Textiles in Kabwe when it resumes operations in the first quarter of 2025 after an investment of 170 million United States dollars.
Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister CHIPOKA MULENGA says the cotton farmers will be engaged on an outgrower scheme to supply raw materials to the textiles.
Mr. MULENGA says Mulungushi Textiles will be producing fabrics and a lot of money has been invested in bringing in the latest equipment.
Speaking when he delivered a Ministerial Statement on the Industrialisation Agenda in the National Assembly today, Mr. MULENGA said 500 jobs will be created when Mulungushi Textiles starts operating.
The Minister disclosed that the investment is also coming with a 20 megawatts power plant which will be producing electricity for the plant and excess energy will be channeled into the national grid
