Mumbi Phiri charged with armed robbery
Police in Kawambwa District have formally charged Mumbi Phiri with aggravated robbery.
Mrs. Phiri is currently in custody in Kawambwa, where she was transferred while awaiting trial for the offense.
The Luapula Provincial Police Commanding Officer, Yuyi Mwala, disclosed in a telephone interview that police are still pursuing other suspects involved in the crime.
The robbery was reported on December 18 last year by Boldwin Chilambikwa, who claimed that his Infinix cellphone, valued at 3,800 Kwacha, and 20,000 Kwacha in cash were stolen by a male suspect.
The suspect is said to have acted under the instructions of Mrs. Phiri.
Meanwhile UPND- says the arrest of PF faction member MUMBI PHIRI for alleged aggravated robbery is saddening because it is a bad example to young politicians.
UPND Deputy Media Director CHEELO KATAMBO says Mrs. PHIRI is a senior politician who young female politicians should look to.
Mr. KATAMBO says Mrs. PHIRI should introspect and align to President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’s call for decent and peaceful politics.
