
Mutti Elected VP for IPU
Speaker of the National Assembly NELLY MUTTI has been elected as Vice President of the Inter Parliamentary Union -IPU – which represents the Africa Geopolitical Group.
Ms. MUTTI was elected at the on-going 150th Aseembly of the IPU Assembly and related meeting in Tasket, Uzbekistan .
The Speaker was elected among two other contenders from Algeria and and Democratic Republic of Congo who are also Africa’s Represntatives at the IPU Executive Committee.
And, Ms. MUTTI has since pledged to ensure that Africa’s interests are well represented in the IPU.
She added that as the new Vice President of the IPU, she will strive to foster African unity on several positions that will be brought before the IPU Executive Commitee .
The Speaker noted with concern that most African issues do not see the light of the day due to divisions, when it comes to voting on emergency matters before the IPU.
