MWEETWA gives update on digital migration
By Mark Ziligone
Information and Media Minister CORNELIUS MWEETWA says over 192 Million dollars has been paid to the contractor for the digital migration since the beginning of the project to date.
Mr. MWEETWA says this is out of the 232 Million dollar loan which was provided by the EXIM Bank of China for the project.
He told the National Assembly that an additional 27 Million dollars is needed to complete the remaining 10 percent of the project.
The Information and Media Minister was responding to Solwezi East Member of Parliament ALEX KATAKWE during the question for oral answer session in the National Assembly.
Dr. KATAKWE wanted to know the status of the digital migration project and whether TopStar and ZNBC had been making repayments to Government since 2020 as required under the credit agreement.
He confirmed that neither TopStar nor ZNBC had made any repayments since 2020.
Mr. MWEETWA explained that TopStar faces difficulties due to the high operational costs of its network while ZNBC has struggled to pay its share, citing financial constraints.
