MWIIMBU: Bill to revise Public Order Act ready
By Masauso Mkwayaya
Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister JACK MWIIMBU says the Public Gatherings Bill intended to review the contentious Public Order Act is ready for submission to Cabinet for final consideration.
This follows a consultative stakeholder process.
Mr. MWIIMBU says the draft bill takes into account all the stakeholder concerns.
He says once the process of enactment is exhausted the name of the Public Order Act will change to the Public Gatherings Act.
Mr. MWIIMBU says the critical stage reached in reviewing the Public Order Act is testament to government’s commitment to upholding good governance tenets.
He says this is the same approach President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’s government took in enacting the Access to Information Law, which previous governments failed to enact despite increased calls from Zambians on the need to enact it.
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security Principal Public Relations Officer MWALA KALALUKA.
