
Nalumango calls for empowerment of Communities to respond to disasters
Vice President MUTALE NALUMANGO has called for the empowerment of communities so that they are able to respond to disasters.
Mrs. NALUMANGO says humanitarian aid must be locally driven.
She says international assistance should come in where necessary.
Mrs. NALUMANGO says natural disasters cannot be stopped but communities can prepare better to reduce the risks.
The vice President was speaking during the Southern Africa Partnership Red Cross Society Meeting in Lusaka.
Meanwhile, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Regional Director for Africa CHARLES BUSINGE said united effort is the only way to respond effectively to the needs of the Communities.
