NGOCC notes progress in good governance
The Non-Governmental Gender Organisations Coordinating Council -NGOCC- has noted progressive patterns of good governance and rule of law that have occurred during 2024 in the country.
NGOCC Board Chairperson BEAUTY KATEBE says the suspension, dismissal and conviction of persons found to have committed financial crimes is commendable.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Ms. KATEBE bemoaned the number of women in elected positions which she said had remained relatively low.
She noted that no female politicians were adopted to participate in by-elections that have been held and called on political parties to desist from sidelining women candidates.
Ms. KATEBE said NGOCC has resolved to heighten advocacy for legal amendment to ensure laws that will promote more women participation in elections.
She also called on the Government to put into effect the Gender Equity and Equality Commission.
Meanwhile, Ms. KATEBE condemned political violence that took place in the recently held Kawambwa by-elections and called on police to take to book perpetrators of the violence.
